Nanaimo RCMP are investigating a theft of 10, eight-week-old German Shepherd puppies. The incident occurred just before 3am on Monday June 2, from a backyard kennel, located in the 300 block of Black Diamond Drive. Since reporting the theft, five of 10 puppies have been recovered and returned.

The owner told police that her teenage daughter was woken by noise coming from their backyard. The daughter went outside to see where the noise was coming from, she discovered several unknown people running away with the puppies.

The daughter screamed upon discovery, which prompted the suspects to run from the backyard to an SUV that was waiting. The vehicle then drove off towards Jingle Pot Road. All of the suspects were noted to be wearing toques and hoodies.

The owner has reached out to various animal care groups and the community at large, and all have been very helpful in assisting the police with their investigation, said Reserve Constable Gary O’Brien of the Nanaimo RCMP.
