  • Multiple B.C. Highways Closed Due to Avalanche Concerns

DriveBC has updated road conditions and a number of highways in the province are closed because of avalanche control and falling rock.

Highway 1 will be closed periodically in both directions from West Boundary of Glacier National Park to Rogers Pass Summit because of Avalanche Control between 1 and 6 p.m.

The Highway is expected to be closed for up to two hours at a time, and estimates will be posted throughout the day. There is no detour available.

Highway 1, Eastbound, is closed after the ramp from Highway 9 because of Falling Rock.

An assessment of the situation is currently in progress.

The Highway is expected to reopen sometime between 9 and 11 a.m.

As a detour, travellers can use Highway 11 (from Abbotsford) or Highway 9 (from Chilliwack) to Highway 7 to Hope.

Highway 1 will be closed in both directions, 5 kilometres west of West Boundary of Glacier National Park to 5 kilometres east of West Boundary of Glacier National Park, because of Avalanche Control.

This section is expected to be closed between 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm and will be coordinated with ongoing Avalanche Control in Glacier National Park.

An alternate route is available from Nelson to Creston along Highway 3A, at the Kootenay Lake Ferry.
