Police spent four hours negotiating with a "distraught" man in Lake Country last night. 

On November 21, 2019 at 5:45 p.m., police officers from the Lake Country RCMP responded to a report of a distraught man along Roberts Road.

The report was received by a friend of the man, who knew that he was in crisis. 

When police officers arrived, a search of the area was done and they were able to locate the man, a 53-year-old Lake Country resident, alone in a wooded area nearby.

Police say he was in possession of a weapon, causing officers to shut down the street and evacuate homes nearby. 

Members from the Crisis Negotiation Team were brought in to speak with the distraught man, and the duration of the incident was about four hours. He eventually surrendered to police and was safely taken into custody.

Currently, police say the male has not been charged with any criminal offences. His name will not be released.
