  • Motorcyclist succumbs to injuries following Coquihalla crash

    UPDATE:

The Central Interior Traffic Services confirms that the man involved in a crash on the Coquihalla Highway on Tuesday has died.

RCMP said that the crash is now being investigated as a fatal collision. Weather and road conditions were good at the time of the crash and other factors are being investigated.

    Original Story

A motorcyclist was sent to the hospital on Tuesday after crashing on the Coquihalla Highway south of the Inks Lake interchange.

According to RCMP, the BC Ambulance Service was dispatched to the area around 5:41 p.m. where they found a 61-year-old man seriously injured.

The Central Interior Traffic Services investigator said the motorcyclist was travelling northbound on Highway 5 with two other riders. He left the highway and entered the centre median. The rider was unable to control the bike and crashed into the centre median and was ejected from the motorcycle.

Police said in a media statement that the three riders were also being followed by family members in a pickup truck. The rider was rushed to Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops with what are described as life-threatening injuries.

Investigators are working to determine the cause of the crash. The man’s name has not been released.
