  • Mexican wrestling star dies during live performance in London

A Mexican wrestler died during a live event on Saturday night.

Lucha libre star Silver King – whose real name was Cesar Barron – was performing at the Roundhouse in London when he collapsed.

The 51-year-old appeared in the 2005 Jack Black film Nacho Libre.

Details of how he died have not yet been revealed, but the Roundhouse confirmed the sad news of his passing last night.

“Last night Silver King sadly lost his life during an event at the Roundhouse,” the venue announced.

“At this stage the details are still being investigated so we don't have more information we can share. Our thoughts and condolences are with his family, friends and all of the Lucha Libre team.”

Among those to have already paid tribute to Silver King is fellow wrestler El Hijo del Santo.

He expressed his “profound sadness” at the death of a “great rival”.

“He went as he wanted: fighting!” he added.

WWE’s official Twitter account also expressed condolences.

The American media company posted: “WWE is saddened to learn that Lucha Libre legend and former WCW star Silver King has passed away at age 51.”
