It’s a chance for an upcoming act to perform alongside some major country superstars.
A B.C. festival is launching a provincial talent search to find an opening act for headliner Sam Hunt.
The Merritt Rockin’ River Fest, which runs from July 28-31, boasts performers like Dean Brody, High Valley, The Road Hammers, Small Town Pistols and more.
Headliner and CMT Artist of the year Sam Hunt still needs someone to kick off the show for him, which could be a huge opportunity for someone looking to perform for a large crowd.
“There is no question that Sam Hunt is a huge draw for our show this year,” said president and founder Kenny Hess, in a statement. “So it was just a natural fit to offer aspiring artists this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”
From April 15 until June 15, eight entertainment venues throughout B.C. will be featuring the Road to Rockin’ River Talent Search contest. The contest will run weekly, for a $20 fee, and participants can pre-register for their location choice on the website. Drop-ins are also welcome.

Participants can sing covers or originals but accompanying tracks or instruments are recommended.
Even minors will be considered if they’re up for the job.
“We just care about fresh talent and want to give them every chance to shine. Age is never a consideration,” continued Hess.
Road to Rockin’ River Talent Contest Venues include:

- Barley Mill Brew Pub & Bistro – Penticton
- Finnegan’s Pub – Abbotsford (allows minors)
- Off The Beat Pub and Lounge – Salmon Arm
- OK Corral and Cabaret – Kelowna
- Rock’n Firkin’ Pub – Kamloops
- Roosters – Pitt Meadows
- Treasure Cove Casino – Prince George, BC
One winner from each venue will be picked to compete at the contest finals to be held on Canada Day in Mission, where the winner will also be announced.
Hunt will be playing the show on Saturday, July 30. The Georgia-bred guitarist, pianist and songwriter, is making a major stamp on the scene with his Leave the Light On, House Party and Take Your Time singles.
The Merritt Rockin’ River Fest features three stages and more than 20 artists performing throughout the event. Children 12 and under are free.
