Much of the province is riding a March heatwave right now as the calendar marches towards the first day of spring.

According to Environment Canada, several record high temperature marks were eclipsed on Sunday, March 18, with thermometres passing 20°C in some areas.

One of the hottest spots in the province was in Pitt Meadows where a 70-year-old record was broken when the temperature hit 19.5°C.

However, despite breaking a long standing temperature record Pitt Meadows wasn't the hottest town in B.C.

The title went to Squamish, where the mercury hit a very pleasant temp of 21.3°C, making it the hottest spot in all of Canada.

Other record daily highs were set in:

• Fort Nelson – 14.3°C
• Nakusp – 13.1°C
• Pemberton – 18.1°C
• Port Hardy – 14.6°C
• Prince Rupert – 14.3°C
• Victoria – 15.8°C
• Whister – 14.4°C

There's potential for even more records to be set this week, with Environment Canada predicting a heatwave to smother the B.C. Interior beginning Tuesday.
