A Kelowna man was rushed to hospital after a single-vehicle crash brought his vehicle to rest in Okanagan Lake.

Just before 8p.m. on Thursday, West Kelowna RCMP received a report of a single vehicle collision on Highway 97 South near Renfrew Road in Peachland.

Witnesses told police that a red Honda CRV was travelling Northbound on Highway 97 when it attempted to exit the highway into a pull out. The witnesses reported that the driver appeared to have lost control, causing the vehicle to plunge into Okanagan Lake.

The 62-year-old driver appeared to have been ejected from his vehicle into the cold waters of Okanagan Lake. Thanks to a number of passing motorists who stopped to help, the victim was pulled from the water and transported to hospital. Kelowna RCMP said the man is still in hospital at this time.

The man’s vehicle was secured in the water by emergency crews to prevent it from drifting away and slipping below the surface. Crews eventually removed the car from the water and it was towed from the scene.
