On Friday evening, locals gathered at the Kelowna Yacht Club for a night of wine tasting goodness with a philanthropic twist, as part of the Summer Sips for Smiles event.
Summer Sips for Smiles is an event created by Kelowna local, and Miss Universe delegate Shanelle Connell as a way to give back to the charity Operation Smile.
Operation Smile is nonprofit organization that provides children with the proper medical attention and supplies needed to perform corrective surgeries in regards to cleft palate conditions they were born with.

The Miss Universe pageant has been working with Operation Smile for many years now, making it the perfect recipient for the funds raised.
Another interesting connection this organization has to the Okanagan isn’t just Shanelle, but some of our very own doctors head to countries like Nicaragua and the Philippines to lend their hands.
The already strong ties to this organization were bolstered by this authentically Okanagan event, as it featured local wine vendors pouring sips of their best creations, and a grand prize mini vacay to the Delta Grand Hotel.

Once it was all said and done, attendees raised close to $5000 for Operation Smile and had a great time doing it.
