The defending-champion Kelowna Sun Devils are performing as expected at the B.C. 18U AAA Baseball League championship tournament in Burnaby.

First-place finishers in the regular season with an overall record of 35-2-1, the Sun Devils improved to 2-0 in the eight-team provincial event by defeating the fifth-place Cloverdale Spurs 10-0 today. In their opening game on Thursday, the Central Okanagan Minor Baseball Association representatives downed the eighth-place Richmond Chucks 14-6.

They added one in the second and two more in both the third and fourth innings of the mercy-rule win.

Tyson Lamb and rookie Adam Renneberg led a 10-hit attack in only four Kelowna at-bats, both collecting a pair of hits. Lamb contributed a triple and a double and drove in a run while Renneberg also doubled and added a single while posting two runs-batted-in.

Meanwhile, Cloverdale was held to just three hits over the five-inning game by starter Jordan Laidlaw, who struck out six Spurs and didn’t allow a walk.

Jaimes Guidon hit four singles and cashed in a run while Brady Renneberg had a pair of RBI with three hits. Badger chipped in with a pair of hits, including a triple, and drove in a run. Connor Lamb, Matt Fuchs and Adam Renneberg all added two hits that included doubles.

Laidlaw took over for the next three innings and posted his second win in as many days by holding Richmond to two earned runs on just one hit. 

The Sun Devils resume pool play on Saturday when they meet the fourth-place North Shore Padres beginning a 9 a.m.

The top two teams in each of the four-team pools will advance to the semifinals on Sunday while the provincial title will be decided later in the day.
