  • Kelowna RCMP Warn Motorists Of Early Morning Icy Conditions

It may seem like spring is just around the corner, but icy conditions are still causing problems as one Vernon woman learned early Thursday morning.

West Kelowna RCMP responded to a single vehicle crash on Westside Road near Traders Cove around 6:43 am Thursday morning. According to police, the 33-year-old driver was heading southbound on Westside Road when she lost control on a corner and left the roadway. She ended up in the ditch.

The woman was taken to hospital for non-life threatening injuries she received when the airbags deployed in the vehicle. The vehicle sustained major front end damages as a result of the crash.

“Police believe that road conditions were a contributing factor in this crash. Both witnesses and investigators confirmed that the road surface was icy at the time of the crash,” said RCMP Cst. Jesse O’Donaghey in a statement.

If you witnessed this crash and have not yet spoken to police you are asked to contact the West Kelowna RCMP at 250-768-2880.

"RCMP would like to remind motorists to slow down and drive to the road and weather conditions," added O'Donaghey. "At night the roadways still have the potential to ice over as the temperature continues to drop below freezing."
