The Kelowna Curling Club is working its way into filling a major gap in our local music scene.

During the late fall and winter, the Curling Club is a hub for local enthusiasts of the sport, hosting regular bonspiels and some pretty high caliber tournaments. But from early spring and on, Curlandia takes over the usually humble sports venue.

Curlandia is like the Curling Club's party animal alter-ego. It is the home of some of Kelowna’s biggest and most exciting events throughout the busy spring and summer season. Hosting everything from craft fairs, gem shows and tattoo conventions, to its most recent adventure the NowPlaying Concert Series.

Though our local music scene is vibrant and thriving thanks to the incredible talent that blooms here and the welcoming venues rooted in our soil, there is one thing that most can agree is missing — a great mid-sized venue.

Not as large as Prospera Place but with more room to dance than the Community Theatre and no age restrictions, Curlandia is looking to conquer that space this spring with their two-part concert series.

We sat down with Event Coordinator for the Curling Club, Cassie Clarke, to learn more about the many aspects of the series and how they hope Curlandia will fill a void in our local scene.

Open to all ages, with tasty food and adult beverages available, the first show of the NowPlaying Series takes place on Friday, May 18, with the Chris Buck Band set to headline.

These country rockers can muster up a party out of thin air, and are the perfect group to kick off this series. To help get things going is Victoria band, The County Line.

Tickets for the show are on sale now through Eventbrite starting at only $29 for general admission. If you want to meet the band for a little pre-party meet and greet, VIP tickets are $49.
