Get your cameras ready: there’s going to be a fascinating full moon this weekend. 

The Snow Moon – also known as the Storm Moon, Hunger Moon, Chinese Lantern Festival Moon and many other names – will arrive early on Sunday morning. 

The moon will appear full for about three days, from Friday evening to Monday morning, according to NASA.

According to the US space agency, the moon was given at least some of its names by pre-European Americans because of the snowy weather associated with this time of year. 

Lots of snow and storms meant that hunting became difficult, hence “Hunger Moon.” 

Around the world, though, it represents many things. 

In China, for example, it marks the middle of the first month of the Chinese calendar – around the time of the Lantern Festival (the last day of new year celebrations).
