A Kamloops triathlete is headed to the concrete jungle!

According to the Kamloops Triathlon Club, Maia Vitoratos, a junior elite triathlete who competes internationally for the team, has accepted an athletic and academic scholarship at an NCAA Division 1 school.

Vitoratos is set to attend Wagner College in New York City starting in August 2020. Her scholarship is valued at $50,000 per four years. 

The swimming and biking specialist, who placed fourth in the Triathlon Canada National Development Series and achieved a podium finish in Triathlon BC's Provincial Super Series, mentioned that she is ecstatic after receiving the award.

Vitoratos' coach, Patrick Waters, explained that the scholarship couldn't have gone to a more deserving athlete. 

"Maia has always done a phenomenal job of setting goals and working diligently to get them," said Waters. "This is a great opportunity for her and in doing so, is showing other female athletes that it is possible to compete in their sport while attending university virtually for free.”
