Kamloops-native Joe Hicketts gets called up to NHL’s Detroit Red Wings

After a less than stellar start to the NHL season, the Detroit Red Wings are looking for some help from a Kamloops product.

Joe Hicketts was recalled by the Red Wings this morning after spending the start of the season playing for the Grand Rapids Griffins of the AHL. He will make his season debut against the Edmonton Oilers at 4:30 pm tonight.

In eight games with the Griffins this season, Hicketts has seven assists. He is tied for third on the team in total points and is the leading defensive point-getter.

The 23-year-old defenseman has been with the Red Wings since the 2014-15 season, winning a Calder Cup during that time. This is set to be Hicketts' 17th NHL game.
