  • Just For Laughs Montreal festival honours Jim Carey

The world's largest comedy festival is nearing an end in Montreal. The Just For Laughs Comedy Festival in Montreal that's been running since 1983 attracted a pool of big-name comedians this year.

Canadian comedian and actor, Jim Carey received the Generation Award at the Just For Laughs Comedy Festival in Montreal on Friday.

Carey is co-executive producer of a new series on Showtime called I'm Dying Up Here.

The 'always on' comedian made use of the stage, having fun with the audience while accepting his award.

Also at the festival was host of The Daily Show, Trevor Noah, Ali Wong, Judd Apatow, Jane Krakowski, David Spade, Craig Ferguson, as well as Howie Mandel.

The next move for world's biggest comedy festival is to take it to Africa.

JFL announced it's expanding the festival and starting a Just For Laughs Africa that will deliver a mix of comedy from across the continent to international starts as well.

The announcement came during this year's 35th Montreal Comedy Festival, with the first JFL Africa happening in Durban, South Africa in 2018.

The festival in Durban is partnering with the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Government.

Currently there's already a JFL in Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver and Sydney.
