Jeremy Loveday has announced his decision to not seek re-election to city council and the Captial Regional District (CRD) this October. 

Loveday said it has been an “incredible honour” to serve the residents of Victoria as a council member and the CRD director.

“I have worked hard to bring thoughtful and compassionate leadership to city hall and to help build a more affordable, sustainable, and inclusive city,” Loveday said in a statement.

Loveday explained that he always planned on serving on council for two terms, but “strongly considered” running again “when it became clear there would be significant turnover on council.”

“I was honoured to be approached by many people who said they would value my continued contributions, however, I have decided that it is time for me to move on to new challenges and opportunities,” he added.

“I have learned so much through this public service, and I’ve enjoyed working alongside so many residents who want to make our city even better. Thank you to my wife Emily, and my family and friends, who have supported me in doing a job that can sometimes wear a person thin.”

Loveday said he will be taking some time to “reflect” and develop his next chapter in life. He will also be completing his MBA in October, and finalizing his first Full-length poetry book, which is scheduled for publication in 2023.

Of the current council members not seeking re-election, Loveday joins Geoff Young, Sharmarke Dobow and Charlayne Thornton-Joe. 

Council members Stpehen Andrew and Marianne Alto are running for Mayor, and Sarah Potts and Ben Isitt have yet to announce their decisions.
