For the second time today, the Trans-Canada Highway (Hwy 1) closed west of Revelstoke after a crash.

The latest closure happened around 11:40 am, when a tractor-trailer was passing other motorists in a designated westbound passing lane.

About five kilometres west of Revelstoke, the tractor-trailer jackknifed, blocking all lanes of traffic.

Police arrived on scene and were able to open the highway to single-lane alternating traffic after it was closed for about an hour.

The 53-year-old driver was handed a ticket for speeding relative to conditions, but fortunately there were no injuries or damage to other vehicles.

At the time, road conditions were described as “compact snow with sleet.”

Shortly after the accident, the snowfall warning previously issued for Hwy 1 was lifted, but conditions are still less than ideal.

A snowfall warning remains in place for the Coquihalla Highway (Hwy 5).
