Anyone who has been near Terrace recently may have spotted a natural and beautiful phenomenon.
An awe-inspiring rainbow of ice shows up around the same time each year as minerals leech from the surrounding rocks into the frozen water. The result is the beautiful ice formation along the side of Highway 16.

“It only happens when it's freezing as the ice builds up. As soon as it warms up the colour dissipates naturally very quickly,” said the Ministry of Transportation.
Every mineral has a different colour spectrum, copper is the blue and pyrite could be the red or pink. The photos were submitted to the ministry by a local, and shared on social media.

Locals have been checking out the natural occurrence for years, and now, it is being shared with the rest of B.C. to see and enjoy.
