    Island Health introduces first Vancouver Island baby of 2024

    A Happy New Year and big congratulations to the first Island baby of 2024.

    Island Health announced the first 2024 baby in their region was born at Victoria General Hospital at 2:06 am. 

    The baby boy was named Ferguson “Gus” Kenneth Ouellet Mitchell. He weighed in at 7lbs 8oz. 

    “Parents Nadia and Alex and big sister Saoirse are thrilled,” Island Health said. 

    BC-wide, the first baby of 2024 was born in New Westminster at Royal Columbian Hospital. 

    The baby girl was born into the Stutsky family “just a second after ringing in 2024,” weighing in at 6lbs 14oz.

    In 2023, the first baby was born in Abbotsford, and in 2022, the first baby was born at Victoria General Hospital.
