Meet Nevin Webster, better known online as YKA Nevin or the creative mind behind Loopszer. Originally from Cambridge, Ontario, Nevin made his way to Kamloops in 2013 to attend TRU and has proudly called the city home for over a decade.
As the founder of Loopszer, a Kamloops-centric meme page and podcast, Nevin’s mission is clear: to connect people to Kamloops in a way they’ve never experienced before—through humour, vulnerability, and authentic local storytelling. “I want people to be proud of living here, but also to take action in trying to better the community,” he says.
Nevin’s favourite people to spend time with are the guests of his next podcast. “I love learning about people and making new connections,” he shares. But of course, his family of five also holds a special place in his heart.

If he could teleport anywhere in the world right now, it would be the Ottawa Valley, where he spent formative summers kayaking. Locally, you might catch him supporting Haus of Misfit—his favourite store for its welcoming vibe for “weirdos like myself.”
His favourite activity? Pickleball, though he admits he hasn't tried it yet: “I think I’m in love with the concept of pickleball and am afraid I won’t like it as much if I actually play a game.”
Despite a long list of “shoved deep down” embarrassing moments, Nevin finds deep inspiration in watching the Girls Skate Kamloops group grow, calling it “inspiring to see kids learning the basics of skateboarding.” It also brings him joy when his own kids ask to take their boards out for a rip before bed.
Nevin's creative sanctuary is his basement studio, where he screen prints and sews patches. It’s where he escapes to dream up his next project—and where Loopszer comes to life.
Diagnosed with bipolar disorder, Nevin is open about the challenges he has faced. “Being bipolar, I’ve had some major manic episodes that were life-changing. The recovery has been a big struggle,” he says. Still, his proudest accomplishment is his ability to come back from those moments: “I went off the deep end and managed to make it back… I haven’t let crashing out define who I am.”

If he could spend a day with anyone, he’d pick Mel Rothenburger for a thoughtful chat about Kamloops’ past and future. And if he could change one thing in the world, it would be helping people truly embrace the phrase “sharing is caring.”
