Meet Steve Lidguard. He's lived in Kamloops since 2011!
Where are you from and how long have you lived in Kamloops?
I am from England, but I have lived in Kamloops since 2011.
Who is your favourite person to spend time with and why?
My youngest daughter Lizzy. Her energy and enthusiasm make every day an adventure.
What is your favourite local store in Kamloops and why?
Hansport. The guys there provide a great service for the soccer community in Kamloops.
Describe yourself in one word.
Dependable.
If you could go anywhere in the world right at this moment where would you go and why?
Italy. I love the culture and history there.
What is your favourite activity in Kamloops?
Soccer. I would play every day if I could.
What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you?
I once reversed my car through the garage door!
What is the most inspiring thing that has happened to you?
Watching my mom fight cancer three times in six years. Even towards the end, she never stopped fighting and providing a strong foundation for me and my sister. The strength I saw taught me that no matter how hard the battle, with the right attitude, you can still have a positive impact on people. To this day I still think of her strength when I am having a bad day.
Tell us your favourite childhood memory.
I would have been about five years old when we went camping in the Yorkshire Dales, and of course, the heavens opened and monsoon type rain flooded our tent. We spent a night sleeping in our small car. That was my first camping experience.
Where do you volunteer or give back to in the community?
I'm a volunteer coach for the KYSA where I coach my oldest daughters team. Watching the girls develop over the last three years has been incredible.
Where would you like to see positive change in Kamloops and why?
I would love to see a food truck culture downtown like in other cities in B.C.
What do you think makes Kamloops great?
The people. As a community, we are always prepared to go above and beyond. The way everyone came together last summer to help the wildfire evacuees was incredible.
How do people connect with you, personally, through social media?
Facebook.
What is the name of your business/organization?
Sun Life Financial.
What is the goal of your business?
To help people protect what is important to them and to retire with confidence.
Tell us your best piece of life advice.
Life is too short, do the things that make you happy.
If you could spend one whole day with anyone in the world who is currently alive, who would you select?
Dave Grohl from the Foo Fighters.
Why do you think it is important to shop locally?
Local businesses are a big part of any community.
What has been your proudest accomplishment?
Immigrating to Canada and building a life for my family.

My wife Kate Potter, she is my rock and an amazing mum.
