What do you always find yourself saying?
“Please don’t …..” climb the wall; jump on the couch or hang off the door. I have two young kids who are two and four-years-old so please don’t do whatever you trying to do, seems to be a very common saying in my house right now.
If you could spend one whole day with anyone in the world who is currently alive, who would you select and why?
I would have to pick David Boyd. He is a Canadian who is passionate about our environment but still believes we can change things for the better.
Who inspires you?
I am inspired daily by the innocence of my children. I love the simple way that they look at the world. They are excited to learn new things and think the best of everyone. They do not focus on life’s flaws but rather the life’s joys.
What are three things on your bucket list?
Returning to Quetico Park for a canoe trip
Travelling through the Northwest Territories with my family
Seeing the other half of Canada. I have only made it as far as Ottawa so far.
If you had an enormous yacht, what would you name it?
I wouldn’t. I would have a very nice canoe.
If you could foresee a single day of your future in its entirety, what date would you select?
None. It would ruin the adventure.
What are you passionate about?
I am passionate about my family, the environment and making a difference in the lives of others.
What has been your favourite day of your life, up to this point?
Like most moms, I would have to say the two days that my children were born.
What has been your proudest accomplishment?
Deciding to follow my dream and opening Unless Market.
Where is your favourite place to dine in Kelowna? What do you like about it?
To be honest, it has been a long time since I have gone out for dinner. If I could choose a place to go out for dinner, it would have to be RauDZ due to their focus on fresh local products.
What is your favourite activity or event in Kelowna? Why?
My favourite activity is spending time outside. I always feel rejuvenated after spending time outdoors.

Unless Market offers local unique businesses a place to sell their products without having to be there or having their own store front.

To change the way that people shop.
If you could achieve one thing within your field, what would it be?
To change the shopping habits of at least one person.
Where do you want your business/organization to be in five years?
Unless Market hopes to be in a larger location because we have changed the way that people are shopping and need more space.
What three qualities do you feel that your business/organization exemplifies?
My business is based on the shop local movement, that we can operate businesses while keeping the environment at the forefront of our daily operations. It also supports the idea that we can each make a difference.
What would you like to say to your employees/volunteers?
I would have to thank all the unique local businesses that believe in Unless Market and what I am trying to do. Without them, none of what I am doing would be possible.
How does your business/organization impact the community?
Unless Market keeps money local. Most of the money spent at Unless Market goes back to someone right here in the Okanagan!
If you were trapped in an elevator with several wealthy investors from any field, which field would you want them to be experts in? What would say to them/talk about?
Environmental sustainability would have to be the field that I would pick. I would want investors who are wanting to make a difference by making environmental initiatives affordable for everyone.
If I could change one thing about Kelowna, it would be:
Make it easier to get around town efficiently without a vehicle.
What do you think makes Kelowna great?
It’s location. Kelowna is beautiful and has every type of outdoor activity close by.
