A Mountie in northern BC didn’t have to think too hard before making the decision to pull over a vehicle for an impaired driving investigation.

The Fort St. John RCMP officer was conducting proactive patrols shortly before 11 pm on Friday, Feb. 9, when they caught sight of the vehicle.

Police said the older-model Chevy was driving down the road with a beer can sitting on its trunk.

After pulling the vehicle over, the officer demanded a breath sample from the driver and it produced a 'warn’ test result.

A ‘warn' result means the driver’s blood alcohol content registered as between 0.05 and 0.08, which resulted in a three-day immediate roadside prohibition (IRP).

“Consumption of alcohol impairs our brain’s thought processes and reaction speeds while driving,” said Cst. Chad Neustaeter.

“In this instance, the driver finished their last drink just prior to driving and forgot where they put their beer can, which inevitably led to them losing their licence for three days.

The three-day also meant the driver’s vehicle had to be towed to their residence at their expense, while they had to walk home with their dog.
