Actor John Heard died in Palo Alto, California on Friday.

The actor was known for playing the beloved dad in Home Alone, Peter McCallister.

He was also known for his lead roles in Chilly Scenes of Winter, Heart Beat, Cutter's Way, Cat People and C.H.U.D.

His acting career took off in the late 1970s and early '80s.

Growing up, Heard's mom was involved in the arts and community theatre, while his dad, John Heard Sr. worked for the office of the Secretary of Defense.

Fellow actor, Jeff Bridges, sent out his condolences over Twitter on Saturday morning.

 Heard leaves behind a son, John Matthew.
