Down 1-0 after a late goal in the first period, the Rockets evened the game on a Tij Iginla goal after the NHL draft pick stole a pass from a defender and buried the puck at the opposite end.
Still in the first 10 minutes of the middle frame and after the Royals regained the lead, Iginla got his second score of the game to make it 2-2.
The Rockets' newest player, Peyton Kettles, nabbed an assist on the play to earn his first points in a Kelowna uniform.
Unfortunately, that was all the Rockets would get as Victoria jumped ahead in the third period and sealed the win with an empty net goal.
Both teams will be back on the ice tonight for round two of their weekend series.
