A recent study canvassing the average price of cannabis in major cities around the world has revealed where smoke costs the most.

The Global Cannabis Price Index catalogues the average price of weed in 120 countries including those where cannabis is illegal, partially legal or legal.

Taking top spot for most expensive pot is Tokyo, Japan where a gram of weed costs $32.66 on average.

For comparison, the least expensive place is Quito, Ecuador in South America where a gram of bud goes $1.34.

On Canadian soil, cannabis costs the least in Montreal ($6.15 g) followed by Vancouver ($6.50 g), Ottawa ($6.62 g), Calgary ($6.62 g) and Toronto ($7.82 g) where weed is the most expensive.

Here’s a breakdown of the most expensive cities to buy cannabis:

1. Tokyo, Japan – $32.66 g
2. Seoul, South Korea – $32.44 g
3. Kyoto, Japan – $29.65 g
4. Hong Kong, China – $27.48 g
5. Bangkok, Thailand – $24.81 g
6. Dublin, Ireland – $21.63 g
7. Tallinn, Estonia – $20.98 g
8. Shanghai, China – $20.82 g
9. Beijing, China – $20.52 g
10. Oslo, Norway – $19.14 g

While some would think the least expensive cities would consist of places where cannabis is legal, the cheapest grams are spread out around the globe:

1. Quito, Ecuador – $1.34 g
2. Bogota, Colombia – $2.20 g
3. Asuncion, Paraguay – $2.22 g
4. Jakarta, Indonesia – $3.79 g
5. Panama City, Panama – $3.85 g
6. Johannesburg, South Africa – $4.01 g
7. Montevideo, Uruguay – $4.15 g
8. Astana, Kazakhstan – $4.22 g
9. Antwerp, Belgium – $4.29 g
10. New Delhi, India – $4.38 g
