The Okanagan was rocked by a major thunderstorm on Friday afternoon. 

Moody skies gave way to heavy thunder, lightning strikes and torrential downpour that left many residents running for cover. 

"Thanks to daytime heating and cool air aloft, a moist and unstable southerly flow is bringing showers and thundershowers into our valley Friday afternoon and evening," explained NowMedia meteorologist Wesla English.

"We will see a clearing on Saturday with a mix of sun and cloud. It will be breezy at times."

Several lightning strikes were witnessed across the valley, greatly raising the concern for potential wildfire activity.

However, as of 5:30 p.m. on Friday, no new wildfires in the Central Okanagan had been recorded on BC WIldfire Service's interactive map.

The wild weather was short lived and the weekend is calling for sun and cloud with temperatures in the mid 20s.
