British Columbians are enjoying the summer sun this weekend, with temperatures skyrocketing across the province.

In 1969, the temperature on June 5 in Kelowna hit 33.9 C, but that record is set to fall on Sunday.

While the day started off at 18 C, the temperature is forecast to reach 35 C. This is well above the “normal” seasonal temperature of 24 degrees.  

It will be a sunny day, and you better get out your sunscreen out as the UV index is expected to be high.

Temperatures aren’t expected to cool down in the coming days either, as the forecast calls for 36 C in Kelowna on Monday.

Kamloops will likely also set a record on Sunday. If it reaches the forecasted temperature of 36 degrees, it will beat the record from 1957 by one degree.

Vernon is expected to reach 35 C, which would beat the past 1969 record of 33.3 C.
