According to Jason Satterthwaite, North Westside Fire Rescue Chief, the fire was sparked by a controlled burn that escaped from its confinements.

Lieutenant Nicolaas Cantryn and crews received the call at 3:09 p.m. and responded to the grassfire at 8668 Westside Rd with two water tenders.

"Arriving on scene we discovered a controlled burn that escaped and was threatening the south neighbouring property," said Satterthwaite.

"Crews were able to contain and knock down the fire quickly. Crews are currently in mop up stages."

The roughly 0.5-acre fire caused minor damage to some nearby fence posts, added Satterthwaite.
