There was a moment when Kelowna born electronic music producer Eric Disero realized he was maybe being a bit too critical of his music.

After graduating with a degree in jazz piano from Carleton University in 2012, Disero moved back into his parent’s basement in the Okanagan and fully committed to becoming a producer.

However, after years of dedicated practice and creation, he had yet to actually release any music. 

“My first ‘ah ha’ moment was when I forced myself to enter an official remix contest held by the band Mutemath,” said Disero. 

“My remix won the contest and presented another opportunity to produce a song for the band's album.

That was when I started to realize the individuality and emotion I put in my music actually had value.”  

Fast forward to 2019, Disero has already released two popular tracks with Vancouver music label Monstercat. 

The 31-year-old is also scheduled to bring an innovative and unique performance to the label's upcoming Compound Block Party on Aug. 24. 

It's the third edition of the annual all-ages Compound Block Party held in Vancouver's trendy Railtown district where multiple BC artists will hit the stage between 2 pm and 9 pm.

“I’ll be trying some new things at Compound where I'll bring multiple live musicians on stage,” explained Disero. 

“Personally, live musicians make me more connected to a show, so I’m excited to have a bit more power to engage people while I’m on stage.” 

Disero will also debut his third release on Monstercat shortly after the Compound event, with a song that he says continues to blur the line between electronic and pop music. 

“The tracks I’ve put out this year have been very pop-influenced with lot’s of space for the vocals to shine through,” said Disero. 

“But as a trained pianist, I also have an indie side that I intend to indulge in more on my next record.”
