  • Gas pumps running dry in Kamloops

If your car is running on empty you better fill up as soon as possible, as gas stations in Kamloops start to face major shortages.

The Petro-Canada at 411 10 Ave. in Kamloops, has confirmed that they no longer have fuel, but would not give information on how their other locations are faring.

On Friday, Dan McTeague, senior petroleum analyst with GasBuddy.com, explained that the Fort McMurray wildfire has affected production at refineries in Alberta, specifically the Suncor refinery in Edmonton.

“The refinery has run into trouble and can’t produce enough fuel for its stations across the west,” McTeague told KamloopsBCNow. “They have advised stations and wholesalers that they are now on allocation, meaning rationed.”

Kelowna gas stations, which receive gasoline from Kamloops, began to run out on Friday, and have not since been resupplied.

Suncor supplies most of the gasoline and diesel to the Okanagan region, so expect high gas prices because of the short supply and high demand.

Prices in Kamloops are now hovering around the 116.9-117.9 mark, with Costco holding out at 113.9, according to GasBuddy.
