Prince George RCMP have recently received a report of a telephone scam making its way through the city.
According to RCMP, a representative from the Prince George Firefighters contacted the police to advise that their organization had received several calls that were thought to be fraudulent.
In each case, the caller claimed to be a representative of the PG Firefighters and was looking for funds for Muscular Dystrophy Canada.
Fundraising for Muscular Dystrophy Canada does occur, however, not until the second week of September each year and only ever at public locations.
RCMP would like to specify to the public that the PG Firefighters do not fundraise over the phone and will not call members of the public for donations.
If you receive a phone call similar to this do not provide credit card information.
The best thing to do is hang up and report the incident to the Canadian Anti-fraud Centre.
