It was a banner day for the 2021-22 Kamloops Blazers, as four members were selected in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft.

On Friday, rounds 2-7 of the draft took place, and Kamloops had Fraser Minten, Mats Lindgren, Daylan Kuefler and Matthew Seminoff’s names called.

Minten was the first Blazer off the board, with the 38th overall pick by the Toronto Maple Leafs.

In the fourth round, the Buffalo Sabres selected 17-year-old defenceman Mats Lindgren with the 106th pick.

Having dual Sweden/Canada citizenship but growing up in Vancouver, Lindgren played parts of three seasons with the Blazers.

This year, Lindgren posted five goals and 39 assists in 68 games played, including seven postseason points. 

His father is Mats Lindgren Sr, who played seven seasons in the NHL, most notably with the New York Islanders and Edmonton Oilers.

In the sixth round, Daylan Kuefler heard his name called by the Islanders, with the 174th pick. 

Hailing from Stetler, Alta, Kuefler played the past three years with the Blazers. The 6 ft 2 in left-winger had 59 points in 65 regular season games, and was a point-per-game player in the playoffs, with 17 in 17 games. 

The final Blazer to hear his name called was Matthew Seminoff, as Dallas selected him with the 179th pick in the 6th round, just five picks after Kuefler.  

The Leesburg, Virginia native had 57 points in 64 regular season games. Pegged to go around 70/80th overall in pre-draft rankings, Seminoff’s fall will undoubtedly put a chip on his shoulder, and he is joined by his Blazers’ teammate Logan Stankoven in the Stars organization. 

A total of 28 players from the WHL were drafted, and the Blazers four were tied for the second most by any team, as the Swift Current Broncos had five, while the Seattle Thunderbirds had four. 
 
It was the first time since 2004 that Kamloops had over four players selected.
