Several “fairy doors” that mysteriously appeared in Rose Valley have now vanished, much to the disappointment of locals.

The doors were put up by an unknown artist recently, all different colours and designs.  

Users of the trail started to notice them, and it’s become a popular outdoor activity for people to visit with their children. 

“During these odd times some kind locals have been putting up colourful fairy houses along this trail,” says Brenda Chorney, a NowMedia reader.

“The children can be heard laughing and excited with every one they find. The parents are thrilled to have such fun with their children and seem very grateful to these locals for bringing so much happiness to this beautiful trail.”

Unfortunately, it seems the sudden appearance of doors goes against some bylaws, according to the Regional District of Central Okanagan.

According to Bruce Smith, spokesperson for the RDCO, the doors started appearing in the park around mid-April.

Early the week of April 20, park staff removed four of the installations and a few others that were damaged.

However, "recognizing the enjoyment and pleasure these were providing during these unusual times," the remaining dozen or so that were intact were left in place for a few weeks.

The RDCO reached out to whomever was involved in the installation so that they could return the collected materials and work out an arrangement that they would remove the installations by last Saturday "in order to return the park to its natural state."

"To protect the natural features and environment for the enjoyment of all Central Okanagan residents, the Regional Parks bylaw doesn’t allow unauthorized installations or damage to the natural features in our parks," explained Smith.

He added that, should any additional installations take place, they will also be removed.
