  • Expect increased police presence during Center of Gravity

    RCMP are preparing for an extra busy weekend, as Center of Gravity starts on Friday.

    According to Kelowna RCMP, with an expected increase of visitors to the Okanagan, they will be enhancing police resources and partnering with other agencies to have more officers downtown.

     The Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit of British Columbia, team members from the uniform gang enforcement team and the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams will all be patrolling during the thee-day event.

    “The Kelowna RCMP Municipal Traffic Section, RCMP Central Okanagan Traffic Services and RCMP Integrated Road Safety Unit (IRSU) will also be increasing their presence and conducting enforcement along area highways as well as in Kelowna’s downtown core,” said Cst. Jesse O’Donaghey.

    “Traffic officers will be searching for dangerous drivers, impaired drivers and individuals in possession of illegal substances,” added O’Donaghey.

    Kelowna RCMP also mentioned that patrols won’t just happen on land, officers will also be ensuring boaters are abiding by the rules of the water.

    There will be zero tolerance for open booze, drug use and public intoxication. Fines will range from $115 to $230.
