A fire 50 kilometres northwest of Fort St. John has calmed down enough for people to go home.

On Monday afternoon, at around 2 p.m., the Peace River Regional District lifted an evacuation alert for the Beatton Airport Road fire.

The fire is 7,035 hectares in size and 30 per cent contained, but the Beatton Airport Road is now open.

Although the Peace River Regional District’s evacuation alert is no longer in effect, the Wildfire Management Branch will continue to monitor the area.

Also on April 25, the Ministry of Environment and Northern Health Authority ended the Smoky Skies Advisory that was issued April 19 for Fort St. John, Taylor and surrounding areas because of wildfire smoke.

According to the Ministry, weather conditions have improved across the region.

According to Environment Canada, the forecast for Fort St. John is mainly sunny, with a high of 15C. Likelihood of precipitation is low overnight.
