  • Environment Canada issues heat warning for South Thompson

    It is officially sunscreen season in the South Thompson and North Thompson as a strong spell of summer heat continues to blanket the region.

    Environment Canada has officially issued a "heat warning" for the coming days, with temperatures expected to reach a scorching 35°C.

    The hot weather will continue throughout the weekend with daytime highs of at least 35°C and overnight lows near 18°C expected.

    Environment Canada reminds residents that extreme heat can pose a risk for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors.

    Heat illness can cause swelling, rash, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and worsen certain health conditions.

    Be sure to drink plenty of water even before you feel thirsty, seek shade and never leave people or pets inside a parked vehicle.
