It is officially sunscreen season in the southern interior as a blanket of heat continues to cover several regions.

Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for Monday, with temperatures expected to reach a scorching 35°C in Kelowna, Kamloops and Penticton.

The sunny weather will continue with daytime highs of at least 35°C and overnight lows of 18°C that will last at least until mid-week.

Environment Canada reminds residents that extreme heat can pose a risk for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors.

Heat illness can cause swelling, rash, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and worsen certain health conditions.

Be sure to drink plenty of water even before you feel thirsty and seek shade in a cool place.

Never leave people or pets inside a parked vehicle.
