There’s been a lot going on at Kelowna International Airport (YLW).

The first phase of the terminal expansion project is nearing completion, which has everyone understandably excited about a smoother travel experience.

As a result of all the major changes happening at YLW, the opening of Ellison Field Taphouse has kind of flown under the radar (pun intended).

It’s a craft-beer focused restaurant and bar that took over the former pre-security White Spot in the main terminal.
 

The space was fully renovated late last year with more seating added, as well as a full kitchen since the old restaurant’s food was wheeled out from the post-security White Spot.

The name is a nod to the original name of the airport, which started in 1947 as Ellison Field with a grass landing strip, but the concept is very much modern.

The taphouse has partnered with the BC Ale Trail to offer up an exciting lineup of craft beers on tap from several Okanagan breweries.

You can snag a pint from Yellow Dog, BNA, Cannery, Tin Whistle, Copper, Abandoned Rail and the Kelowna Beer Institute.

Food options include breakfast, appies, wings, bowls, salads, handhelds and flatbreads.

The taphouse addition is part of the $120-million renovation and expansion of YLW, which will include more restaurant options in the bigger departure lounge when it opens this year.
