Police say a single-vehicle crash in Vernon earlier this week led to a pair of roadside prohibitions for impaired driving.

The RCMP was called to the scene at the intersection of Meadowlark and Pleasant Valley roads around 9:15 pm Monday.
 

While there were no injuries reported, the responding officer’s interactions with the driver led them to believe the woman was impaired by alcohol.

She failed a resulting breath test and was handed a 90-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition (IRP), while her vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

According to an RCMP statement, things then took “an unexpected turn” when the person the lady called for a ride home arrived at the scene.

She was also impaired, police say, and was dealt the same 90-day IRP and 30-day impound that her friend received just minutes earlier.

“This is a case of extremely poor judgment…times two,” noted Cst. Chris Terleski. “It might seem a bit comical at first, but it isn’t at all.”

Terleski said impaired driving has “serious and real consequences” and urged people to “get it right the first time” by planning for a safe and sober ride home if you’re consuming alcohol.
