You can now explore some of the furthest corners of B.C. from the comfort of your own home.

Destination BC, the province’s tourism organization, teamed up with Google Maps to capture the beauty of B.C.’s wilderness.
 

Using the same technology that provides us with Google Street View, almost 1,000 kilometres were trekked by foot and documented by 360 degree video.

Over four months, our crew captured stunning scenery and local narratives from across the province,” explained Destination BC. “Nearly 1,000 km were trekked, to add wilderness terrain to Google Maps Street View, and to highlight B.C.’s expansive and pristine nature.”

Destination BC videographers traveled alongside the mapping crews, learning and documenting stories from some of our province’s most beautiful and unknown spots.

These video stories, along with the 360 degree video taken by Google cameras, are compiled on the Destination BC website and labelled as BC Journeys.

There’s even a feature on the Okanagan, which showcases Myra Canyon, Covert Farms, Skaha Bluffs Rock Climbing and bird watching at Vaseux Lake Provincial Park.

Other spots highlighted by this series include The Rockies, Chilcotin, the Sunshine Coast and Haida Gwaii, just to name a few.
 

The incredible 360 degree footage and storytelling makes for a great way to explore our province from home, but it certainly doesn’t measure up to the real thing.

However, it does allow people to see what trips they might want to make in real life, both for B.C. residents and tourists.
