There’s a new king of streaming.

Just six months after being released, Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee’s “Despacito” has become the most streamed track of all time.
 

The song, as well as the accompanying remix with Justin Bieber, has racked up more than 4.6 billion plays across various streaming platforms.

“Streaming is a connector for audiences worldwide and it has helped my music reach every corner of the planet,” said Fonsi. “It is truly an honour that ‘Despacito’ is now the most streamed song in history.”

More than half of those streams come from the song’s music video on YouTube, which is currently sitting at 2.66 billion views.
 

With “Despacito,” Justin Bieber surpasses his own record that he previously set with “Sorry” and it’s associated remixes, which have accumulated 4.38 billion plays to date.

After dominating the charts since its release six months ago, “Despacito” shows no sign of slowing down either.

The song is currently number one in the U.S., U.K., Australia, Canada and many more countries.

“Luis Fonsi already had the undisputed, biggest song of the year – and now he’s setting even bigger records,” said Sir Lucian Grainge, CEO of Universal Music Group. “Streaming has opened up the possibility of a song with a different beat, from a different culture and in a different language to become a juggernaut of success around the world.”

The next milestone for “Despacito” would be the most streamed YouTube video of all time.

Currently, Wiz Khalifa’s song “See You Again” leads the way in that regard with 2.935 billion views, slightly ahead of Psy’s “Gangnam Style” at 2.904 billion views.
