Provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry announced two more deaths related to COVID-19 in British Columbia, as well as 55 new test-positive cases on Tuesday.

BC currently has 94 COVID-19 patients in hospital, with 37 of those patients are in intensive care.

Broken down by health region, Henry said there are 803 cases in Vancouver Coastal Health, 918 in Fraser Health, 119 on Vancouver Island, 168 in Interior Health, and 45 in Northern Health.

One of the two newly announced deaths is in the Interior Health region, the region's first death occurred on April 9.

The majority of newly identified cases are connected to the two poultry plant outbreaks in the Lower Mainland.

There are now 46 cases of COVID-19 associated with Superior Poultry Processing Ltd. in Coquitlam and 34 associated with United Poultry Ltd. in East Vancouver.

At the federal institution in Mission, 120 inmates and 12 staff have now tested positive for the virus.

A total of 1,190 people are now considered fully recovered.

Henry also reported that BC's fatal rate for patients in critical care is much lower than other parts of the world.

Earlier Tuesday, the federal government released updated projections on the number of potential cases and deaths in Canada from COVID-19 that came in lower than initial estimates.
