The London, England-based Consone Quartet will bring their classical music stylings to the St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in downtown Victoria this weekend.

It will be the first ever visit to the South Island for the group, which is made up of violinists Magdalen Loth-Hill, Agata Daraškaite, and Elitsa Bogdanova, as well as cellist George Ross.
The quartet is regarded for their appreciation of works from classical music’s “golden era” in the 18th Century, attempting to replicate the styles of Mozart and Haydn during their performances.
“This ensemble uses gut strings and a style of bow that was in use in the Classical period of music,” said Executive and Artistic Director of EMSI, Bill Jamieson. “That is rare among string quartets, so we get a fresh take on familiar works that reflects how they sounded when the ink on the manuscripts was barely dry.”
The quartet were formed at the Royal College of Music in London and launched their professional career in 2015. They have since received much acclaim in the classical music scene, winning the 2016 Royal Over-Seas League Ensemble Prize, and being awarded a prestigious Borletti-Buitoni Trust (BBT) fellowship in 2022.
