The BC Conservation Officer Service (BCCOS) has been made aware. People are asked to be mindful if you are in the area.

If you see a cougar in your neighbourhood, it is likely passing through. You should bring all children and pets indoors until it has left.

If you encounter a cougar and aren't able to go inside, the BCCOS says to make yourself look as large as possible and keep the cougar in front of you.

Do not run or turn your back on it, as a sudden movement may provoke an attack. And, if a cougar starts to follow you or shows interest in you, respond aggressively by maintaining eye contact, showing your teeth and making loud noises. You can also arm yourself with rocks or sticks as weapons.

Lastly, if a cougar does attack you fight back—hit it in the eyes and face with any weapons you have available.
