On Tuesday, August 8th, the Council met regarding a directive that the Peachland Economic Development Committee not only look into relocating the market but the event's feasibility as well.

Concerns over the safety of the event, with people crossing the highway to get to the venue, have been cause to question the event's feasibility.

“Given the exemplary way in which the hired flaggers handle the traffic issue at the close of the market, the Chamber of Commerce feels the market is yet another ongoing benefit to the well-being of Peachland as a growing, vibrant Okanagan Community,” the Chamber said in a statement.

In response to the discussion, the Chamber of Commerce spoke to the business community near Heritage Park, who reportedly had no objection to the market or the venue.

“The feeling we have as a chamber is that it’s a benefit to the community. It's something that, as long as it’s well monitored, can continue as it is,” said Rocky Rocksborough-Smith, President of the Peachland Chamber of Commerce.

“The market wants to be a good neighbour to everybody, especially the merchants.”

On behalf of the Peachland business community, the Chamber of Commerce is strongly recommending that the Mayor and Council, and the Peachland Economic Development Committee, take into account the benefits that merchants get from the market.
