The Kelowna Sun Devils scored seven straight runs to overcome a two-run deficit and record a 9-7 victory over White Rock in their opening game at the B.C. 15U (Bantam) AA Baseball League championship today in Ladner.

Representing the Central Okanagan Minor Baseball Association, the Sun Devils connected for 13 hits — all singles —  with Owen Reynolds leading the offence by driving in four runs.

The Sun Devils resume round-robin play on Thursday beginning at 9 a.m. against North Island while they’ll meet Ladner and Vancouver Community on Friday.

Meanwhile, COMBA Sun Devils will also be represented at the B.C. 10U (Mosquito) championship tournament in Cloverdale beginning on Friday.

Back: Coaches Sandy MacPherson, Joel Lindsay, Kevin Fierbach and Steve Lewandowski.The Sun Devils earned their spot in the 10-team provincial event by sweeping the Vernon Canadians in two straight Interior Zone games recently. They’ll begin round-robin play against Ladner on Friday at 11 a.m. while the other teams in their pool are No. 1-ranked Abbotsford, Ladner, Cloverdale and Nanaimo.

The top two teams in each pool will advance to the semifinals. The championship will be decided on Monday.

Two West Kelowna teams will also be represented at provincial tournaments this month.

The 11U Tier 2 AAA team, earning a berth with a 4-1 record at the recent zone tournament, will travel to Kamloops in a bid to win a B.C. crown while the West Kelowna 13U A team will play host to that division’s 10-team provincial tournament Aug. 9-12.
