Six Central Okanagan teachers have triumphed at this year’s Premier’s Awards for Excellence in Education.

The awards – launched in 2018 – honour public, independent and First Nations school teachers, support staff, principals, vice-principals and school and district leaders.

This year, awards were given to three individuals in each of the 10 categories. 

The nomination period, which ran from April 14 to May 5 this year, was open to the public, as well as those working in the education sector. 

The award recipients were celebrated at a ceremony at Government House in Victoria on Thursday. 

Each recipient received a $2,000 personal bursary for professional learning, a $1,000 contribution to their school for professional learning and a commemorative trophy.

The Central Okanagan winners are listed below:

Amanda Liebe: Teacher at Constable Bruce Neil Middle School, SD23 – Extracurricular Leadership

Jim Elwood: Teacher, Mount Boucherie Secondary, SD23 – Indigenous Education

Rob Bennett: Teacher, Kelowna Secondary, SD23 – Outstanding New Teacher

Lauren Klassen: Teacher, Constable Bruce Neil Middle School, SD23 – Outstanding New Teacher

Amanda Hilverda: Certified education assistant, Kelowna Senior Secondary, SD23 – Outstanding Support-Teaching Assistant

Danielle Brown: Certified education assistant, Constable Bruce Neil Middle School, SD23 – Outstanding Support-Teaching Assistant
