The Central Okanagan Food Bank is appealing for food donations.

The food bank says that they are facing “critically low” stock of many key items. They have nearly 4,000 people per month, or 700 families, that depend on their support.

“Our Christmas inventory, which we rely on to get us through the spring, is now nearly depleted of many of our staples,” explains Lenetta Parry, Executive Director of the Central Okanagan Food Bank. “We are down to only a few days-worth of items such as canned meats, fruits and vegetables, peanut butter, cereals, pasta and macaroni and cheese.”

The Okanagan Eats Food Show on April 26-27 at the Kelowna Curling Club is in support of the food bank. Tamie Williams, communications officer for the organization, says that this is a good time to let the community know that they need a boost.

“We hope to lean on the generosity of all those that will attend spring and Easter food and fundraising events.”

Organizers of Okanagan Eats have donated a limited number of complimentary tickets as a way to garner food donations. To receive one ticket, donate one bag of food to the Central Okanagan Food Bank (2310 Enterprise Way – shipping and receiving doors) weekdays between 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The ticket giveaway runs until April 18 at 2 p.m., while supplies last.
